Beeld jezelf even het gouden tijdperk van de oceaanstoomboten van 100 jaar geleden in. Voeg daarbij het hedendaags comfort en de modernste faciliteiten uit de hedendaagse scheepvaart. Het resultaat is Cunard. Deze klassieke rederij ontstond in de 19de eeuw en nog steeds staat de naam symbool voor Britse degelijkheid overgoten met een flinke scheut royalty.

Wat meteen ook verklaart waarom de drie schepen naar koninginnen genoemd zijn: Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria en Queen Mary 2. In feite is enkel Queen Mary 2 gebouwd als een echte oceaanstomer, met een romp gemaakt om bij elke weertype door de Atlantische golven te klieven. De service en beleving is echter op alle 3 schepen evenwaardig. Sommige plekken op de schepen als de bibliotheek of de memorabilia shop zijn mini maritieme musea waarbij het niet op een maquette meer of minder komt.

De gala-avonden hebben een heerlijk traditioneel gevoel waarbij je zo terug in de tijd gekatapulteerd wordt. De afternoon tea, geserveerd door obers in kraaknette pakken met witte handschoenen, is een vast onderdeel van de dagelijkse beleving aan boord. 

Typisch voor Cunard is het vasthouden aan de onderverdeling van de accommodaties in klassen, met de Queens Grill en de Princess Grill voorop, gevolgd door de Britannia Club en de Britannia. Elke categorie beschikt over zijn eigen restaurant, waarbij de Grill Restaurants van een hoger niveau zijn, en meer exclusief.

Een knipoog naar Groot-Brittannië is de typische pub voor een fish & chips al dan niet met een pint of lager. In het winkelgedeelte waan je je dan weer bij Harrods.

In 1840 begon de typisch Britse rederij Cunard met transatlantische overtochten en luxueuze cruises. Jarenlang bepaalde Cunard de norm inzake elegante zeereizen en de daarbij horende gastronomie en luxe. De Amerikaanse Carnival Corporation is sinds enkele jaren eigenaar van Cunard, maar het Brits imago werd behouden omdat de passagiers die typische Britse sfeer erg op prijs stellen.

Op 3 december 2004 tekende Cunard bij Fincantieri het contract voor de bouw van de Queen Victoria. Op 16 februari 2006, werden de langverwachte vaarroutes van de eerste cruises bekendgemaakt. De belangstelling was zo groot dat de "maiden voyage", die plaatsvindt in december 2007, volledig uitverkocht werd in minder dan 24 uur.

De Queen Victoria heeft alle eigenschappen die zo kenmerkend zijn voor Cunard. Net zoals haar voorgangers de Qeen Elizabeth 2 en de Queen Mary 2 onderscheidt de Queen Victoria zich van moderne, hedendaagse cruiseschepen door haar zwarte buitenkant en rode schoorsteen. Ook aan de binnenkant wordt de traditie verdergezet met elegante, luxueus ingerichte publieke ruimtes en prachtige hutten.

Herleef in de moderne glitter en glamour high society evenementen van de jaren '30 en '40 in de rijkelijk gedecoreerde zalen. Opvallend zijn de gebogen trappen, de geometrische vormgeving en het spectaculaire kunstwerk in de Grand Lobby. In de bibliotheek, twee verdiepingen hoog, overheerst het hout in warme kleuren, dat baadt in natuurlijk licht en bekroont is met een glas-in-lood dak. Weelderige materialen, luxueuze meubelen en art deco creeëren een verbluffende indruk overal aan boord, zoals in de Queens Room. Hier, kunt u genieten van thee onder rijkelijk gedecoreerde balkons en gebrandschilderde ramen of zet enkele danspasjes op de houten dansvloer, prachtvol verlicht met een weelderige kroonluchter.

De Queen Victoria is een echte oceanliner die traditie combineert met vernieuwing. Er zijn heel wat publieke ruimtes die 2 of 3 dekken hoog zijn waardoor een groot gevoel van ruimte gecreëerd werd. Het schip beschikt over 2 buitenzwembaden, 1 binnenzwembad, 6 whirlpools, een fitnesscenter, een sauna, een Turks bad, 3 hoofdrestaurants, 2 alternatieve restaurants, een theater, een bibliotheek, een casino en een speelruimte voor kinderen.
